Frames Sustainability Manifesto

Frames - Portuguese Film Festival aims to ensure that our festival is hosted responsibly, taking responsibility for the environmental, economic and social issues using Sustainable Event Management in the spirit of Agenda 2030

Acting sustainably is a responsibility of all and Frames will do its part to help future generations have a place to live (and watch movies).
Our Sustainable Event Management aims to minimize all potential negative impacts on the environment and leave a beneficial legacy for the host community and all involved, following the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in every stage of the event’s organisation.

Guest Management

  • Create a website for our festival with information always kept up-to-date

  • Make the majority of communication assets available digitally

  • Create barrier-free access to the festival’s materials, e.g. for persons with visual disabilities (we’re working on making the website more accessible to persons with hearing disabilities)

  • Communicate decided sustainable measures on our website

  • Use a reduced amount of printed products.

  • In digital participant management, enable feedback by email or via the website

  • Use digital tickets, instead of printed ones.

  • Use digital folhas de sala, instead of printed on paper.

  • Determine perception and satisfaction electronically after the event through electronic surveys.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity

  • No discrimination of gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, functionality, sexual orientation, religion or age, towards our festival visitors, our team, our program, our guests, and our partners.

  • Have an inclusivity and gender equality perspective when selecting guests (film directors, actors, etc) for our editions, and films for our program.

  • Contribute to positive principles such as tolerance, acceptance, empathy, solidarity, honesty, friendship, curiosity, creativity and imagination through cinema, related arts and parallel events.

  • Encourage collaboration and create synergies with local actors.

  • Promote a sense of belonging to the Portuguese-speaking communities in Sweden and in particular in Malmö, Gothenburg, Stockholm and their regions (especially through Frames Kids), as well as integration within Swedish society.

  • Make a positive contribution to the cultural life in Malmö, Gothenburg, Stockholm, as well as Skåne, Västra Götaland and Stockholm regions.

Mobility and Accessibility

  • Check whether a face-to-face event is necessary for guest directors, actors, etc. and opt-in for a virtual meeting.

  • Take international connections by direct flights into consideration

  • Select event times that enable participants to arrive and depart by public transport

  • Provide information on the use of environmentally-friendly means of transport (public transportation, cycling or walking!) We’re privileged that Sweden has a big range of those!

  • Work with festival venues that are accessible to guests with reduced mobility

  • Provide easily-understood route descriptions on how to reach the venue, possibly by integrating apps.

Event Venues

  • Provide a number and variety of seating options

  • Ensure a sustainable way to deliver film dcps or opt-in for digital (whenever possible, we’re using FileMail to receive dcps. If there’s a more sustainable way please let us know!).

Sustainable Sourcing

  • When selecting suppliers, take their level of competence in environmentally-oriented management into account

  • Reduce paper, printing and postal services

  • When possible, use 100% recycled paper or paper from a certified source – and print on both sides of the paper

  • Ensure that all the products are reusable

  • Use environmentally friendly and/or bio-degradable (cleaning) products

  • Short travel distances for service providers or use of low-emission means of transport.

Catering

  • Needs-based quantities of food to avoid leftovers

  • Develop a concept for dealing with leftover food, e.g. use best-residue boxes

  • Use only local-based caterers and - whenever possible - use locally produced goods and certified products (Organic, Marine Stewardship Council (MSc), fair trade etc

  • Whenever possible, use reusable plates and dishes, and reusable cutlery and glasses otherwise recyclable assets

  • Always offer at least one vegetarian alternative for the participants.

  • Provide tap water in decanters or water dispensers

  • Offer drinks only in glass bottles or reusable dispensers

  • Set up waste containers for collecting separate types of waste and ensure that waste is disposed of in a proper and environmentally-friendly manner.

We’re all together in acting sustainability and we’re aware there’s always something we can do better! If you have any questions or suggestions please contact us today.
