A Present Light / Luz De Presença

🎬 FRAMES SHORTS is the festival’s competitive section, where more than 70 short films were submitted. 10 films entered the official 2022 selection.

The Jury composed of Cecilia Torquato de Oliveira (director, artist, screenwriter and producer) and Valeria Villegas Lindvall (senior lecturer in film studies) has decided to award the Grand Prize for Best Short Film to A Present Light, from Diogo Costa Amarante.

“More than a story about heartbreak, it is a story of coming back from it through an unexpected friendship. The award for the best short film goes to this story of loss, grief and connection for its skilful portrayal of dream-like settings through light and careful scene direction, its focus on mood and atmosphere, as well as its visual accomplishment when it comes to detail. Who hasn't tried to cover the scratches of the heart with red nail polish?”

Additionally a Special Mention was awarded to…

The Garbage Man / O Homem do Lixo

Laura Gonçalves' short film was so impressive that it earned a special mention from the jury.

“Departing from documentary sound, this short film takes us through a journey without leaving the family dining table. It gracefully retells history and its discontinuities through the lens of family memory - making the most out of animation as fable. For its creative and innovative animation, the honorary mention goes to The Garbage Man / O Homem do Lixo, by Laura Gonçalves.”

Thank you to all the talented filmmakers who submitted to this year's Frames Short competition. Your creativity and passion have made this event possible. We appreciate your participation and look forward to future opportunities to showcase your work.
