Our job can last a lifetime. That was the case for Lurdes and ''her'' laundry. A laundry can be much more than a service whose mission is to wash clothes. It can be a place for profound human relations and deep inner changes.

MAURITZ BREKKE SOLBERG

João and Xandi, two surfers in their early 50's, have been working together for 25 years. They clean beaches by picking up trash and create stunning artworks from it. But living as an artist and idealist in Portugal is not economically profitable and therefore not easy. Their family life is affected by the choices they make and their wish to raise awareness about the ever growing pollution in our oceans.

Tiny Little Delicate Foreign Castles (2014)

ROB KEY, ERIKA WINKLER

A camera is a dangerous weapon, rational argument is useless, and one's presence is a plausible threat. Yet, no one really knows what's going on.
This is the world the filmmaker enters while trying to film embassies in Lisbon. Through the journey, the dynamics and paranoia of 'security' and the law are revealed.

Antonio, the director’s uncle, left Portugal for Brazil 50 years ago, at the age of 19 – never to return. Over the years, he has promised his mother that he would come back… but half a century later, she is still waiting.
Why did he never return? "He may believe that life lasts a lifetime, but no," says his brother Bento, indignant. His 90-year-old mother has grown bitter and resigned: "If he doesn't give a damn about me, likewise!" Between the Portuguese hamlet where the uncle was born and grew up, and the megalopolis of Rio where he lives in a self-imposed exile, there is a world of misunderstanding and things that go unsaid.

A Rapariga Ideal / The ideal girl (2015)

MARIANA PEREIRA

Maria Amélia and Maria Natália both went through Salazar's "Mocidade Portuguesa", an institution created during the dictatorship in Portugal to develop a certain ideal of woman and family. But it also allowed and fostered experiences and activities unusual for that time, especially for girls. By the inconsistent testimonies of these two ladies we watch a portrait of Lisbon's youth in the thirties and forties, and also, a grandchild's emotional look at her grandmothers.

Inspired by true events, '4242' is a cinematic interpretation of a poem written by a teenager who leaves her home country, her family and friends, to live in another country somewhere in Europe. “This story is important to tell because teenagers across the globe increasingly face similar situations as the character of ‘4242’,” says Sara Eustáquio. “For several different reasons, many teens end up living in different countries where they may not even speak the same language. This story is not only about immigration, as we have seen in Europe, but also about the mix up of so many feelings during adolescence. Perhaps even feelings that may occur during adulthood: loneliness, confusion, the integration process in new spaces, the challenge of displacement both physical and spiritual.”
