Luísa was born and raised in Lisbon, having also lived a period of her life in the United States. At the age of 16 she auditioned for the Portuguese version of Idols where she placed third in the singing competition. She composed "Amar pelos dois", which won the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 for Portugal, performed by her brother Salvador Sobral.

After attending Berklee College of Music in Boston Luísa Sobral made her recording debut in 2011 with the album “The Cherry on My Cake”, a record which received good reviews from the public and critics. This was followed by “There’s A Flower In My Bedroom” (2013), featuring a number of prestigious guest singers, such as Jamie Cullum, the Portuguese António Zambujo and pianist Mário Laginha. “Lu-Pu-I-Pi-Sa-Pa”, recorded in 2014, pushes her music beyond the boundaries of her first two albums.

“Luísa” (2016) is her latest album, recorded in Los Angeles at United Recording Studios, used by . The new songs and touching lyrics reveal a new level of creative maturity that is more confident, demanding, authentic and spontaneous. It was recorded in Los Angeles, at the mythical United Recording Studios, used by such historic names as Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Jay-Z, Radiohead and U2. It is produced by Joe Henry, winner of 3 Grammy Awards, who, besides a solid career under his own name, has worked with musicians like Elvis Costello, Solomon Burke, Beck and Madonna.
